Hi everyone,

Since you last heard from us, we've released a new version of Painter! And the response to Painter 11 has been great! As well as having introduced important new features, we've also partnered with some exciting companies to make your digital art environment that much better. Through ConceptShare™ we now offer a secure online workspace for sharing creative files. When your artwork's complete, you can then have it printed on canvas by Brushstrokes® Fine Art and even enhanced with oil paint at the hands of master artists!

Before I share more details about the latest Painter, I'd first like to thank our beta community for helping us get Painter 11 to market. I'd also like to thank a number of our artists for allowing us to use their artwork in our launch and on the Painter 11 packaging. A big thanks to Daniel Conway, Ad Van Bokhoven, Jun-ichi Fujikawa, Andrew Jones, Dan Milligan and Katarina Sokolova.

And thank you to our community of loyal users! Without your support, Painter wouldn't thrive like it does today. We appreciate you all for being so passionate about Painter! Whether you upgrade to the latest version or stick with your existing program, we covet the fact that you've chosen our program to help you fulfill your passions.

As for the latest and greatest version, we've included some significant new features. For starters, we've greatly enhanced the workflow by redoing the way our selections and transformations work (now centralized in one toolbar, plus other improvements). We've also rebuilt our color management after hearing that colors were sometimes shifting when sharing files between programs. Our new color management now lets you set the color profile to match the programs you share files with; Adobe® Photoshop® in particular. The profile is saved with each file so you don't need to remember individual file settings. Likewise, when importing files from Photoshop, Painter 11 reads the incoming profile, removing the guesswork and making your colors match from the start. And to enhance Painter's natural media capabilities, we've added 40 new brushes to the dry media category, so those of you with a tablet can take advantage of your pen's tilt and velocity.

As with any new version, there will be hiccups along the way. Some Windows users noticed that when painting a series of strokes, one stroke would occasionally not appear on canvas. We've created a patch to fix that, which you can get your hands on here:

Again, thanks to everyone for your continued support of Painter. Happy painting!

Cheers,
Rob MacDonald

Paint Master Profile: Liang Yue

At age 19, Liang Yue headed north with 5,000 Taiwan dollars in his pocket and an artist's dream in his head. Today, thanks to his enthusiasm for painting and his sharp observations of life, he creates dramatic works of art using digital tools such as pencil, ballpoint pen, chalk, spray and oil paints. His tool of choice is Corel® Painter™. As a result of his fourteen years of painting experience and profound knowledge of Painter, he has become a Painter Master, and teaches popular Painter illustration courses.

Liang Yue believes that humans have an innate sense of color and shape, and therefore he has always refused to ‘color within the lines' but instead expresses his own creativity. In the classroom, he shows his students how to complete a work of art from scratch with a step by step mentoring method that not only inspires the students' conception of art, but also helps students to acquire a sense of beauty. By repeating this method several times, students can master the essence of painting and complete a unique work of art after about two classes.

“When creating a work of art, Painter functions as an art studio—it provides me with multiple painting brushes that are extremely easy to use and provide a natural feel as though I was painting by hand. I can try out different brushes to test the coordination and movement of their particular brushstrokes. Painter can also be used for drafting ideas and trying out different colors, resulting in unexpected effects," he says.

“Painter encourages my students to playfully discover their unique painting potential in a relaxed learning atmosphere. Everything I know about painting, I pass on to my students to help them get started quickly. Teaching students new skills and concepts also puts pressure on me to further develop new skills of my own. Fortunately, Painter provides a wide variety of tools that enable me to constantly explore its marvelous potential and develop new ways of expressing art."
