Five Steps to Making an Effective Lost Pet Poster

Melody Pugh, Pet Detective, said there are five basic tips that everyone should include on their posters that will improve their chances of finding a lost pet.

1. Include a picture of your pet without other people in the picture. Pugh said many people take pet pictures that have other people in them, and those pictures don't allow people to get a good look at the missing animal. You should take a good, clear picture of your pet alone every six months.
   
   
2. Tell people to keep the flyer in their home. You should also mention on the flyer that you want them to keep it handy so your phone number is there, and mention that it's ok to call any time day or night.
   
   
3. Tell people to phone even if they think they might have seen your pet. You want to encourage them as much as possible.
   
   
4. Tell people how they can help. Tell them to look in the wooded areas of their properties, sheds, and any other places a frightened animal might hide.
   
   
5. Direct people. On your flyer, tell people if they feed animals out of doors to watch the feeder. Cats that are missing will eat that food.
