Turning a brush into a Blender brush
By Ian Symes
In Corel® Painter IX.5, Blender brushes let you move and mix underlying pixels. Blender brush variants can reproduce the effects of applying water or oil to blend paint. Blender brushes are ideal when you need to smooth image areas and retouch small details.

Paint applied to the canvas with the Fine Camel 30 Oil brush variant is moved and mixed with the Oily 20 Blender brush variant.
While you can choose from more than 30 variants in the Blender brush category, you can make variants from other brush categories mimic Blender brushes by simply adjusting a setting on the property bar. Whenever you choose a brush category that has the resaturation (Resat) slider on its property bar, you can make that brush variant behave like a Blender brush. The Resat slider controls the amount of color that is replenished in a stroke. If the slider is set at zero, the brush does not produce any color.
To turn a brush variant into a Blender brush
- On the Brush Selector bar, choose a brush category from the Brush Category selector.
Not all Brush categories allow you to adjust resaturation.
- Choose a variant from the Brush Variant selector.
- On the property bar, move the Resat slider to 0.
The brush now behaves like a Blender brush.
