Iterative Save
Iterative Save enables you to quickly save sequentially numbered versions of an image with a simple menu command. The first time Iterative Save is used, "_001" is appended to the filename. Each subsequent time the number increments by 1, and a new sequentially numbered file is created.
To perform an iterative save
Choose File menu > Iterative Save.
You will notice that the filename of your image in the document window has automatically changed.
You can also perform an iterative save by pressing Command + Option + S (Mac OS) or Ctrl + Alt + S (Windows).
If you save a version of the file before you use the Iterative Save function, you can control the number at which the automatic numbering of iterative saves begins: for example, if you first save your file using the Save As function, and you manually add "_003" to the end of the filename of the first version, subsequent iterative versions will be automatically numbered "_004," "_005," and so on.
The version number of the file you are currently working on will be displayed in the Windows menu with a check mark next to it.
You can further customize the Iterative Save function by creating a custom Iterative Save button. Corel Painter makes it easy to create buttons from menu commands.
To create a custom Iterative Save button
- Choose Window menu > Custom Palette > Add Command.
- With the Add Command dialog box open, choose File menu > Iterative Save.
- In the Add Command dialog box, click OK.
You now have a custom palette with an Iterative save button. Every time you want to save a version of your image, just click the Iterative Save button!
With regular iterative saves, you don't lose any work, and you have different versions of your image available, from which you can choose and combine different elements to create your final artistic image.
