Using Iterative Save
The Iterative Save feature in Corel® Painter IX lets you easily save variations of a work in progress. This feature can save you time and prevent you from losing elements of your artwork. Imagine that you are creating a complex landscape. As your work progresses, you can quickly save sequentially numbered versions of your image.
The first time that you use Iterative Save, _001 is appended to the filename. For each subsequent Iterative Save, that number increases by 1. You can easily recall any iteration, so that experiments gone wrong don't result in lost work. For example, if you are not satisfied with an element of your finished work, you can open an earlier iteration and proceed from there.
Before you can use Iterative Save, you must name your file.
To name your file
- Choose File menu > Save As.
- Type a name for your file in the File name section of the Save Image As dialog box.
- Click Save.
You can now use Iterative Save to sequentially number your work in progress.
To use Iterative Save
- Choose File menu > Iterative Save, or click Command + Option + S (Mac OS) or Ctrl + Alt + S (Windows).
The filename of your image in the document window automatically changes.

You can control the beginning number in the automatic numbering function by saving a version of the file before you use Iterative Save. For example, if you first save your file by using the Save As function and manually add _003 to the end of the filename of the first version, the subsequent iterative versions are automatically numbered _004, _005, and so on.
