Using the KPT® filters in Corel® Painter IX
The KPT® filters that come with Corel® Painter IX let you transform your image dramatically in only a few seconds. Each filter has a separate interface that is accessible from Effects > KPT Collection. Each filter also has a separate online Help, accessible from the Help button in the upper-right corner of the screen.

You can close the KPT interface, and either keep or discard the changes you've made, by clicking one of the two buttons in the lower-right corner of the screen. Once you exit the KPT filter, you return to the Corel Painter workspace. You can then make further changes to the image or save the file.
Each filter allows you to control the modifications to your image, but some of the filters can also be used to produce dramatic and unexpected effects. When you achieve an effect you like, make sure that you save your file. Some effects may be difficult to reproduce.
The examples below illustrate the effects of three of the KPT filters.
KPT® Goo
The Goo filter creates the effect of melting and transforming the image. You can use several different brushes, accessible from the Goo Brush panel in the upper-left corner of the screen. The following examples show the transformations you can achieve with some of these tools.

|
The Pinch tool distorts the image by creating a pinching effect toward the center of the brush. |

|
In this image, the Pinch tool was used along the horizon line to draw the sky and ground toward each other and flatten the image in between. The building is pinched out of existence. |

|
With the Pinch tool, the clouds were shaped into a snowy mountain outline, without distorting the rest of the image. |

|
Applying pressure with the Pinch tool without dragging across the image creates a circular lens effect that can be used to produce kaleidoscope-like distortions. |
A combination of the Magnet tool and the Iron tool can be used to move elements within the image: The Magnet tool distorts the image, and the Iron tool applies a smoothing effect, recovering the original shape. In this example, the building has been brushed downward into a distorted form, and then ironed back into shape at the new location, without any residual distortions to the image.
KPT® Pyramid Paint
The KPT® Pyramid Paint filter uses the Lab color mode to make your images look like paintings. The filter also applies color and contrast adjustments to the image.

The Pyramid Paint filter transforms the image so that it resembles a painting. In this example, low values for Threshold and Lighten Color are applied. |

|
The Pyramid Paint filter applied with low values for Lighten Color, and with a Hue Rotate adjustment toward the blue spectrum, to create the effect of night falling. |
KPT® Reaction
The KPT® Reaction filter creates textures based on an organic fractal pattern. You can control the parameters of the diffusion, such as direction, apply mode, and reaction seed. The reaction seed is the source used to create the pattern; the default source is the original image.
