Image Design
The pages in this informational series are periodically updated with new content, and we invite your comments and suggestions.
You may contact the Corel® Approved Service Bureau Program directly at casb@corel.com. At the stage where drawing beings, most users will already know what size and type of page they will be working with. The controls provided in the Page Setup dialog of CorelDRAW® 12 make it easy to configure page settings exactly as desired.
Page size, orientation (i.e. portrait or landscape) and bleed can be set quickly and easily. Multi-paged documents can be configured to show facing pages and the layout of the document can be configured based on the type of document being created (i.e. full page, book, booklet, tent card, side-fold card, top-fold card). Labels can be selected based on an existing cardstock and can also be adjusted to meet individual requirements. Using this dialog, background colors can be assigned to the page so that the designer can gain an understanding of how the document will appear when printed on colored stock.
Every CorelDRAW document created is based on a template, which is a pattern or mold for the text, graphics and formatting contained in a particular document. Templates are based on sets of styles that govern the appearance of specific types of objects including shapes, lines and text. When a style is applied to an object, the object assumes the appearance as dictated by the style. By building a drawing around a template, the attributes of every object in the document can be controlled by the user.
Drawings can be started using the default template, a preset template for a specific type of drawing or using a custom template created by the user. If used effectively, templates can be used to form the foundation for all documents.
You can avoid most potential output problems if your final output conforms to guidelines established in the following areas:
Page Layout
Font Handling
Bitmaps
File Formats
